GarbhShiksha offers gentle activities, stories and traditional verses for expecting mothers. It is for wellbeing and learning only. It is not medical advice, and it never replaces your doctor. Please read this page before you use the site.

Your doctor comes first

  • Nothing on GarbhShiksha is medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment. We are not doctors, and using the site does not make us your healthcare provider.
  • Always follow the advice of your doctor, midwife or hospital. Go to all your check-ups, scans and tests, and take the medicines and supplements they give you.
  • Never ignore medical advice, or wait to get it, because of something you read or did on GarbhShiksha.
  • Talk to your doctor before you start anything new in pregnancy, including breathing practices, yoga, fasting or changes to your food.

Get help straight away if something feels wrong

Call your doctor or go to the hospital at once if you have any of these:

  • Bleeding or spotting from the vagina
  • Fluid leaking from the vagina
  • Strong or constant pain in your belly
  • Your baby moving less than usual, or not at all
  • A bad headache, blurred vision, or sudden swelling of your face, hands or feet
  • Fever, fits, fainting, or trouble breathing
  • Vomiting so much that you can't keep food or water down
  • Feeling very low or anxious most days, or thoughts of harming yourself

In an emergency in India, call 112 or 108 for an ambulance. Many states also run 102, a free ambulance for pregnant women. For free mental health support at any time, call Tele MANAS on 14416 or 1-800-891-4416.

About the activities

  • Our puzzles, memory games and stories are meant to help you relax and spend calm time with your baby.
  • We do not claim that they change your baby's intelligence, health, development or how your birth goes.
  • Take breaks, rest your eyes, and stop if you feel tired, dizzy or uncomfortable.

About our stories

  • Our stories are for reading aloud, for calm and for bonding with your baby. They are not lessons in history, religion or health.
  • Our stories are fiction, and we write them with the help of AI (artificial intelligence) tools. We read and check each one before it goes on the site, but a story may still have a mistake. If anything in one seems wrong or hurtful, please write to s.shailesh1995@gmail.com.
  • Stories marked "Old tale, retold" are short retellings, in simple words, of myths, fables and folk tales. They are not translations of any scripture, and they may differ from the versions your family tells. We leave out frightening and sad parts on purpose.
  • Stories marked "True story" are about real people and are based on facts we have checked, but the way each is told is ours, and we don't put made-up words in anyone's mouth.
  • The names, characters and events in our new stories are made up. Any likeness to real people is a coincidence.
  • Stories about birth imagine a calm, safe and happy moment. They don't describe or predict your own birth: every birth is different, and your doctor is the one to guide you.

About shlokas and Garbh Sanskar

  • Garbh Sanskar, shlokas and the stories behind them are shared as culture, faith and tradition. They are beliefs held with love, not medical facts.
  • Chanting cannot decide your baby's sex, intelligence, looks or character. It cannot guarantee a normal delivery or prevent problems in pregnancy.
  • Breathe naturally while you chant. Don't hold your breath or do forceful breathing, and stop if you feel dizzy or breathless. If your pregnancy is high-risk, ask your doctor first.
  • We share every verse for a child of any gender. Finding out a baby's sex before birth is illegal in India under the PCPNDT Act, 1994.

Your pregnancy week is an estimate

We work out your week and trimester from the due date you give us, only to choose activities and verses. It is an estimate. The dates your doctor gives you are the ones that count.

About research and facts

When we mention research, such as when babies start to hear, we explain it in simple words. Studies are often small, science changes over time, and what is true in general may not apply to you. Your doctor knows your pregnancy best.
