Our Home, Your Home
Talk with your baby · 2 min read · Week 17
A slow, loving walk through the home that is waiting for the baby.
Hello, little one. It's Mumma. I have a story for you.
Come, little one. Let us take a slow walk through our home. I will keep one hand on you, so you can come along.
We start at the front door. Hear that? That is the sound of our door. Everyone who lives here knows it. Soon you will know it too.
This is [the room where we sit together]. Here we talk, and laugh, and sit close in the evenings. The floor feels cool under my bare feet.
This is our home. Soon it will be your home too.
Now here is [my favourite window]. In the morning, the light comes in here first. It makes a warm, bright square on the floor. I like to stand in it and close my eyes. Tomorrow, let us stand in it together.
Look, here are our plants. [The plants we have]. I water them, and they grow, slowly and quietly. Just like you.
If we stand still, we can hear the street. [The sounds of our street]. They tell me the world outside is awake and busy. And we are safe inside.
This is our home. Soon it will be your home too.
And this is [the place where I will rock you to sleep]. The fan humming. The lights low. You, warm in my arms.
Big or small, a home is the people in it. And everyone here loves you already.
This is our home. Soon it will be your home too. A warm home is waiting for you.
“Home is where love lives.”
Talk to your baby
A warm home is waiting for you. Our door, our window, our plants and our street. And all of us, with open arms.
Say this aloud, slowly, or in your own words.
I love you, little one. You are safe. We are together.
