Samvad: talks with your baby
The Last Stretch
Talk with your baby · 2 min read · Week 27
The third trimester begins: heavy days, night-time kicks, and happy counting down.
Hello, little one. It's Mumma. I have a story for you.
Little one, we are in the last stretch now. The final part of our journey.
I will be honest with you. Some days feel heavy. My back gets tired. My feet love to rest on a cushion. Getting up from the sofa takes me two tries. Sometimes three! I laugh about it.
And at night, you wake up. Just when I lie down, you start to dance. A kick here. A roll there. A little tap, like a knock on a door. I put my hand on my tummy and whisper, "Hello. I am here."
One day closer.
I am counting down now. I look at the calendar a lot. [Papa's name] counts too. We have a small bag, half packed, by the door. We fold your tiny clothes. Then we unfold them again, just to look.
Some days I feel tired. Some days I feel excited. Most days I feel both at once. And that is okay.
One day closer.
The heavy days are part of this. They are a sign that you are growing. Every slow step I take is a step towards you.
So I will rest when I need to. I will ask for help when I need it. I will put my feet up and hum to you.
One day closer, little one. And I can hardly wait.
“The last stretch is the closest to joy.”
Talk to your baby
Every kick at night tells me you are close. Not long now, little one. We will meet very soon.
Say this aloud, slowly, or in your own words.
I love you, little one. You are safe. We are together.
