What I Hope for You
Talk with your baby · 2 min read · Week 11
A mother's simple hopes for her baby: a kind, curious and happy life.
Hello, little one. It's Mumma. I have a story for you.
It is raining softly tonight. I can hear it on the window. Tap, tap, tap. I have a warm shawl around my shoulders. And I am thinking about you, and the life ahead of you.
People already ask me what I want you to become. I just smile. My hopes for you are small and simple.
I hope you are kind. I hope you share your umbrella on a rainy day. I hope you notice when someone is sad, and sit with them a while. I hope you thank the auto driver and the lady at the shop. Kindness is a small thing. But it makes the world warm.
That is my hope for you.
I hope you are curious. I hope you ask "Why?" a hundred times a day. Why is the sky blue? Where does the rain go? I will not always know the answer. But we can find out together.
I hope you are happy. Not every minute. Nobody is happy every minute. But I hope you find joy in small things. A puddle to jump in. A song you love. A friend who makes you laugh and laugh.
That is my hope for you.
I do not need you to be the best, or the first. You only need to be you.
A kind heart. A curious mind. A happy smile. That is my hope for you.
“Love wants only happiness.”
Talk to your baby
Whoever you become, you are loved. A kind heart, a curious mind, a happy smile. That is all I wish for you, little one.
Say this aloud, slowly, or in your own words.
I love you, little one. You are safe. We are together.
