First Rain on the Earth
New story · 2 min read · Week 11
The first monsoon rain falls softly, and the dry earth breathes again.
Hello, little one. It's Mumma. I have a story for you.
Let us sit by the open window... you and I.
It has been a long, hot summer. The ground is dry and dusty. The leaves droop low. Even the birds are quiet. The whole earth is waiting.
Then... a cool breeze comes. It lifts the curtain. It touches our cheeks. The sky turns soft and grey.
And then... one drop. Then two. Pit... pat... the first rain is here.
The drops tap on the tin roof. Tap, tap, tap. They fall on the peepal leaves. They roll down like tiny shining beads.
Let us hold out a hand. A cool drop lands on our palm. Then another. So soft. So cool. Pit... pat... the first rain is here.
Now the rain falls gently on everything. On the rooftops. On the dusty road. On the thirsty fields. The earth takes it in, slowly, slowly.
Listen... The earth seems to breathe again. A long, happy sigh. The leaves lift up. The grass stands tall. A little frog sings, croak... croak. In the courtyard, a peacock opens its feathers wide.
We breathe with the earth. In... cool and fresh. And out... slow and easy. Pit... pat... the first rain is here.
Everything feels new. The dust is washed away. The trees look greener than before. The air is clean and cool. The earth is ready to grow again.
We sit by the window and listen. The rain sings on the roof, soft and steady. And our heart feels new too.
“Every rain makes the earth new.”
Talk to your baby
The first rain made the whole earth new. You are my first rain, fresh and new. You fill my heart with hope, little one.
Say this aloud, slowly, or in your own words.
I love you, little one. You are safe. We are together.
